How it Works

The team at BISE understand that taking an additional course of study is a big step. Here is a step-by-step guide to studying with us.

1. Choosing your course

Check out our full course list here. We offer trainees a sequence of courses through which they can progress, from initial teacher training to leadership courses or a doctorate programme. We also have specialist courses focusing on inclusive education, sport, residential education or mentoring.

All our courses are delivered by qualified and experienced teaching staff at the University of Buckingham.

If you don’t know which course is right for you, ask our team of experts.

2. The application process

Help is at hand. We have an expert admissions team based in Asia to walk you through the application process and pre-screen your application. Our application screening service will save you time and increase the likelihood of you getting an offer for your preferred course at no cost to you.

See the full application process here.

3. Studying online

Taking one of our online courses enables you to access internationally recognised, expertly designed, and professionally run qualifications delivered by a UK university without the need for relocation.

As our courses are part-time, you will be able to fit your learning around your busy schedule. Your learning journey will depend on your course, but will involve attending regular online study sessions, online meetings with your course supervisor, reviewing online learning resources, and completing independent study tasks all facilitated through an online learning platform.

Visit our course pages to see how each course will be delivered.

4. Support throughout the course

You will be guided every step of the way by staff at the University of Buckingham and at BISE. Each trainee or student is assigned a tutor or supervisor from the University and supported through regular meetings and discussion sessions.

For our PGCE and iQTS courses, trainees are also assigned an in-school mentor, who will observe them teach and meet with them weekly to review progress and set targets.

5. Classroom-based teacher training

“We know that [learning on-the-job is] the most effective way of becoming a good teacher and being able to practice what we are telling you to do in the classroom week in, week out.”

Prof. Barnaby Lenon CBE, Dean, Faculty of Education

Applicants for our PGCE and iQTS courses must be employed in a school as a teacher at the time of their study, while our MA courses require employment in a school or educational organisation. This means that trainees are able to cement their knowledge through immediate practice. The most effective way to improve teaching skills.

6. How you are assessed

As the courses are online, you will be assessed through methods such as observations, regular progress checks, and written assessments. MA and Doctorate study is primarily assessed through the submission of a written thesis or portfolio (EdD only).

7. Graduating and further study

At BISE, we don’t let our students miss out on celebrating their achievements. Every year, we hold an in-person celebration and alumni networking event for our students based in Asia. You can find out how we stay in touch with our Alumni here.

And BISE students keep coming back, for example, PGCE graduates are awarded 60 L7 credits to go towards a Master's Degree if they wish to continue their study at a later date. See our individual course pages for more information.
